New York Tour Details

Dear Parents,
We have finally made all the arrangements for our Spring Break tour and are ready to give you an itinerary. We will also plan a very short meeting after practice Wednesday at 5:45 PM in Coach Mills’ room, for us to cover some things not mentioned here and to answer any questions you might have. I realize this is short notice and if you can’t be there please stop by any night after practice. Also all of the info will appear on StheaglesRugby.Blogspot.com including roster in the coming days for your reference.
The cost per player for this year’s tour will be $650 per player. The true cost is $900 per player but as usual the club has benefited from the generosity of many people to lower the cost per player and subsidize the coach’s fare.  Also the players will be hosted by the families of both our opponents for a total of three days which also lowers the cost since we will only need 2 nights in hotels and only 3 meals the boys will have to pay direct. Included in this price will be air fare, bus transportation, hotel stay and tour site entry fees and one team dinner.
We will be playing two games against the 2 best High School programs in the New York-New England area, perennially nationally ranked Xavier of NYC and Greenwich HS of Greenwich CT. We will have 3 days between games and the boys will get to do some fun events in between. We plan on taking them to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown NY and for a tour of the Military Academy at West Point and the new Memorial Museum at Ground Zero. As fun as this sound’s I can assure you the friendships made during their stays with their opponents families will be long lasting and carry on one of the fine traditions of camaraderie in the gentleman’s game of rugby. So please honor this by not asking to take your son off the tour for another purpose.

Varsity XV Name Roster For Woodlands

The Varsity XV roster was named for the Woodlands matchup on Friday night (02-14-14).  The game will be a rematch of the state semifinal last spring and promises to be an entertaining and challenging match for the Eagles.

Location:  Alden Bridge Sports Park, the Woodlands
Time: 7:45 PM

Directions: Take I-45 North (29 miles) to exit 79A (College Park Drive/Needham Road/Texas 242).  Turn left on TX-242.  Drive west until you get to Green Bridge Drive and then make a u-turn.  The park will be just down on the right (look for the lights because it is stuck back off the street).  If you are coming from downtown, please give yourself enough time as the construction just south of the Woodlands is bad and will delay you.  I would recommend either taking the HOV or Hardy Toll Road north - especially on a Friday night.

Reed Hogan Invited to U20 Camp

Former STH rugby player Reed Hogan (13) was invited to the USA U20 All-American camp in December. Hogan will be joining former Eagle greats Andres Diaz and Conor Mills if he makes the USA U-20 squad. The Eagles would like to wish him the best of luck at the U20 camp and in all his future endeavors!

Keegan Mills Accepts Rugby Scholarship to Lindenwood University

Senior Keegan Mills has accepted a rugby scholarship to play at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri.  Lindenwood competes in the Midwest Conference of D1-A, which is the highest level of competition at the collegiate level.  While a relatively new program (established in 2011), it has quickly become one the dominant teams in the college ranks.  The Lions are also one of the first full varsity programs in the country.  Under Coach Ron Laszewski, the Lions won the 2012 national championship in only their second year.

Mills is a three-time All-State selection for the Eagles, a Texas High Performance Player, and has been invited to the USA High School All-American camp.  During his career at STH, the Eagles have won three straight state championships, he was captain and team MVP, and stands among the top five in all career scoring categories of the school record book.  Mills set a school record for penalty kicks in a match (5) this season against the Woodlands.  "I am extremely excited to continue my rugby career at such a good program," said Mills.  "I am looking forward to competing against the best players in the country and continuing the growth of my game under Coach Laszewski."

Mills also had an offer from Notre Dame College in Cleveland, Ohio, but decided that Lindenwood was the best fit for him academically and athletically.  "The coaches and players of St. Thomas High School Varsity Rugby are extremely proud of Keegan's scholarship with Lindenwood.  Throughout his high school career Keegan has exemplified the principles of dedication, intensity, and sportsmanship that make rugby so special," said Head Coach Jim Wolfinger.  "Keegan is an avid student of the game and has, in addition to his playing and leadership roles, become an internationally recognized referee with great promise.  I couldn't be more proud of Keegan - he is a fine young man.  I feel sure we will be hearing great things about Keegan for many years to come!"
